This medicinal herb is an erect, herbaceous perennial herb in the family “Zingiberaceae” grown for its edible mass of roots or underground stem (Rhizome) which is widely used as a spice.
The rhizome is brown, with a corky outer layer and pale-yellow scented center. It continues to be a popular folk remedy in China and India.
